A popular stop for many travelers was the Prison Store, which offered products made by the inmates of the prison. Although the prison has moved to Warren, the Prison Store still operates on US Route 1 in the town center. Thomaston’s Main Street (US Route 1) is well known for its architecture and antique shops.
15 miles south on ME Route 131 will land you in Port Clyde, a working fishing village. Port Clyde offers arts, shops and restaurants as well as ferry service to Monhegan Island. A few minutes away is Marshall Point Lighthouse, one of the most photographed in the state. It was also the setting for a scene in the Forrest Gump movie.
