Presque Isle is the largest city in the largest county in Maine. Although Aroostook is the largest county, and Presque Isle is its largest city, its population is a meager 9500. Like so many other northern cities and towns, lumbering is what put Presque Isle on the map. However it wasn’t long before the relatively flat and fertile land became the main farming feature, with potatoes being the major crop.
