Welcome to Lubec, Maine

Lubec, Maine – Although Lubec is not on US Route 1, a trip this far Downeast without a visit to Lubec is inexcusable.

To reach Lubec from East Machias, travelers may continue along the 13 miles of US Route 1, through Whiting, then turn onto ME Route 189 for 11 miles. Or from East Machias head south on Cutler Road/ME Route 191 for 27 miles, then onto ME Route 189 for about 5 miles.

Neither route offers much in the offerings of stores, lodging or restaurants. Although the route through Cutler is longer, it does offer some views of the coast and something not to be missed is Cutler Coast Public Lands. The trail along the rock cliffs offer views offered nowhere else along the northern coast.

Not only is Lubec the easternmost point in the lower 48, it also offers a variety of visitor attractions.
