Fort Kent, Maine is the last outpost in this corner of the United States. At the top of the state, and in the heart of the St. John River Valley, Fort Kent was originally set up to protect the lumber industry, then the agriculture industry. Today it is a four season resort area. It is also the terminus (or beginning) of US Route 1!
