There is not much to see or do along Route 1 or in these small towns, but take the 23 mile loop along ME 186 from east of Columbia Falls, through beautiful and busy Jonesport, along scenic Englishman Bay back to Route 1 just west of Jonesboro.

There are three ways to travel from Jonesboro to Machias. Continue along the 8 miles of US Route 1. Or, take 10 miles of US Route 1A through Whitneyville. For a scenic route, turn onto Old Route 1, then Roques Bluff Road and travel the 7 1/2 miles to Roques Bluff State Park. A splendid day out with abundant wildlife and ocean scenery. Then travel ME Route 192 through 8 miles of rural roads to Machias.
