Welcome to Calais, Maine
Kittery – 321 miles <<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>Fort Kent - 161 miles Calais, Maine (pronounced kallus) is a major access point for international travelers, being the southernmost Canadian border crossing (not counting Campobello Island). Calais used to be a major fishing port with the safe harbor of the Passamaquoddy Bay sheltering the ships. Whitlock’s Mill Lighthouse is the state’s most northern lighthouse. It still guides ships through the bay. The lighthouse is not accessible but can be viewed from the St. Croix Riverview Rest Area on Route 1.
